You’re probably asking yourself, did he really just ‘ Thank’ California? As cheesy as that sounds, yes, yes I did. Now let me explain.
I thought I was feeling inspired, and creating great content, and was quite pleased with life. Then I took a trip to California for a week and everything changed. The sunshine. The beautiful colours. The palm trees. The relaxed and chill overall vibe that radiated from every inch of our adventures. It opened my eyes. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Toronto, I really do. But it made me realize that everything around me from my instagram feed, my own content, my personal style, etc. was all starting to look the same. Nothing new. Nothing exciting. Nothing fresh. I discovered that I was craving something I didn’t even know I was lacking. Colour, excitement, warmth (physically and visually).
So yes, THANK YOU, CALIFORNIA!
I know what you’re all thinking, really, in just a week you had this epiphany about life and suddenly you’re all ‘inspired’ and ‘motivated’? Well, thats precisely it. It was the restart button I needed, but didn’t know I needed.
Now onto the good stuff. If you follow me on Instagram and watched my IG stories, you probably saw a lot of my adventures and a few of the photos I shared. But now I want to break it down for you, and if you scroll through, you’ll see some ‘yet-to-be-shared’ pics and get a better idea of my time in Cali.
First stop: Anaheim. If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that my boyfriend Rob and I tend to take a lot (and by a lot I mean like 4 times a year) of trips to Disney World in Florida. So obviously once California was planned, so was Disney Land. The first 2 days of our trip we hit up the theme park to enjoy the magic and of course geek out on rides for a few days. My favourite area was Cars land. How cool and retro is Flo’s Cafe? And those gas pumps, I couldn’t NOT take a pic there. Duh! #KidAtHeart
We then made our way to Pasadena where my best friend in the world, Taye, and her mom (my second mother) drove to pick me up and took me to spend the day in LA with them. The funny part is, they’re actually from my hometown, Halifax, and just so happened to be in California the same time as me. Now that we don’t live in the same province we don’t get to see each other as much as I’d like to, so being able to spend the day with them was so special. They gave me a little tour of the city and then we headed to The Ivy, for seriously the most delicious lunch! I had the shrimp tacos and they did NOT disappoint!
Before leaving to San Diego, we had the cool experience of being part of the audience for 2 tapings of the Dr. Phil show. Trashy, I know, but I love trashy tv so I had to check it out. Unfortunately we were unable to take any pics but watch for me on TV 😉 . After checking into our hotel in San Diego, we took and afternoon and drove about 30 minutes to La Jolla cove. We had the most incredible day at the ocean, and if you watched any of my IG stories that day, you’d see how close we got to the sea lions/bay seals and their little babies like the one below. Seriously though, LOOK AT THAT FACE!!! It was surreal and something I wont soon forget!
Who could forget the main reason for vacation, though? A little R&R. When I wasn’t out on adventures, or buying new sunglasses with rose coloured lenses, I was laying out by the pool trying to get my tan on. BUT CAN YOU BLAME ME??
I had to have an orange moment, too, duh! Or was it a red moment? Either way, who cares. This IRO sweater is one of my favs and totally fits the whole 80’s/90’s fashion reboot we’re having. I thought it was perfect for California!
We couldn’t leave without one last visit to the ocean on our last night. We drove back to La Jolla cove to visit our little sea lion friends, and really took in the beauty of the ocean and the warm sun as it began to set. It was truly one of the best vacations I have ever had. It was a vacation that I needed, that sparked a new love for life.
One last time,
Thank You, California~
